Hi, I'm Toni Haas.
I'm a Huntington Beach author, artist, illustrator and book designer. Goodnight Surf City grew from my love for our beautiful seaside community and the memories families make together.
Every colorful page is inspired by real places, local stories and the little moments that make Surf City special.

One Giant Board. 66 Surfing Legends!
Huntington Beach made waves in the record books with an unforgettable ride celebrating a century of surfing.
The Epic Big Board Ride
Imagine sharing a single surfboard with 65 other people! During Huntington Beach’s International Surfing Day celebration in 2015, a team of local and professional surfers, ranging in age from 15 to 79, rode one enormous board together.
All 66 riders stayed aboard for 13 seconds—long enough to earn a Guinness World Records title for the most people riding a surfboard. The previous record had been 47 riders, set in Australia in 2009.
And the board itself was a record-breaker! At 12.83 meters (42 feet 1.5 inches) long, it also earned the title of the world’s largest surfboard. The giant board was so big that heavy equipment was needed to move it into the water.
It was a spectacular moment for Surf City, watched by cheering beachgoers, and a tribute to Huntington Beach’s surfing heritage. Learn more about the board and the city’s surfing history through the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum.
